Master Lavros, a towering figure in the world of harness racing, has left an indelible mark on the sport with his remarkable achievements and enduring legacy. Born in 2008, this Sundon-bred trotter from Lavra Noblesse quickly rose to prominence under the expert guidance of trainer-driver Mark Jones. Over his illustrious career, Master Lavros amassed an impressive record, securing his place among the greats of harness racing.

Early Career and Major Wins
Master Lavros’s racing career began with promise, and he did not disappoint. He raced from his 2-year-old season through to his 8-year-old season, showcasing his talent and consistency. Throughout his career, he won 20 races and was placed 15 times from 53 starts, amassing a total of $608,007 in stakes. His victories include two prestigious Dominion Handicap Trot titles in 2013 and 2015, as well as the 2014 Rowe Cup.

Training and Legacy
Master Lavros was trained and driven by Mark Jones, with assistance from Regan Todd later in his career. Despite facing leg problems due to his enormous size, he continued to perform at a high level, winning races in every season from two through to eight years of age. Life After Racing
In retirement, Master Lavros has found a new home in the Hakataramea Valley, where he is cared for by Dan Patterson, a Timaru Boys High student. Patterson and Master Lavros have formed a strong bond, participating in local shows and enjoying a relaxed lifestyle. Master Lavros’s transition to life after racing has been smooth, and he continues to be a beloved figure in the harness racing community. Master Lavros’s induction into the Harness Racing Hall of Fame at Addington Raceway is a fitting tribute to his outstanding career and contributions to the sport.
